Persistent conflicts between people are often a consequence of trauma that we may not recognize. Trauma has a negative impact on our ability to develop positive, healthy relationships. Addiction, anxiety, depression, ADHD, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and chronic pain are a few diagnoses and symptoms that result from emotional/physical trauma. Anne, a Licensed Professional Counselor and therapist in Philadelphia PA, 19119, specializes in working with trauma, relationship problems, and related symptoms. Anne has successfully helped many adults, couples, adolescents, children and families recover from symptoms of trauma. Please refer to her page on Trauma. Here is Anne’s Therapeutic Philosophy:

“Psychological health is vital for a healthy, happy life. Experience has taught me that people can and do heal from trauma, as they create the psychological health they need for the life they want. Therapy helps people change emotional trauma into emotional intelligence. In addition, good therapy helps people create the life they want.

Finding a therapist one feels safe with is vital. Moreover, it is important to interview a prospective therapist carefully. In my approach, the client leads. I know that people are resilient and have the solutions to their problems within them. Facilitating client’s process is my primary objective. Facilitation is done with deep listening and relevant questions. As a result of this type of work, client’s self-esteem improves. My preferred style of working is humanistic and is based in the science of interpersonal neurobiology. When it seems useful, I incorporate cognitive behavioral techniques. Teaching clients how to motivate and empower themselves is another facet of my practice.

In my work, with people of all ages from various cultures, I have seen that many people have negative perceptions of themselves, when in fact; they are stronger, more intelligent, creative and resilient than they know. All it takes is someone who believes in them, to help them recognize their abilities. My naturally optimistic nature, tempered by experience, continues to be renewed as I notice the positive characteristics of people I work with. It is exciting to watch my clients as they, too, begin to recognize those positive qualities, as a consequence of the work we have done together.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, verbal therapy is central to my practice.  If a client is interested in using Art Therapy we do so.  Please refer to my page “Art Therapy”.  My natural ability to be deeply attuned with my clients, which I have been fine tuning throughout my life, is vital to the process.”
